Job's Crucible

At the core of the term is the Latin word, crux, which means cross, used a synonym for torture.  Our English term excruciating bears a similar resemblance.  Webster defines crucible, “a severe test; a place or situation in which concentrated forces interact to cause change or development.”

Job’s crucible was brought about by two attacks from Satan, both permitted by God.

Round 1 – He was attacked in the area of his possessions and his family.

Round 2 – Came on the heels of the first, before the grieving father could catch his breath…He was attacked in the one area that remained – his health.

Satan didn't believe that an image-bearer would "fear God for nothing" (Job 1:9).  Job proved Him wrong.  "Though He slay me, yet I will trust Him," said the man whom Jehovah offered up to Satan in Job 13:15.
